Nostalgic feelings of summer
* All pictures are made by Nadia Morsink in december 2022.
ABOUT THIS SERIES
We live on a small Caribbean island called Bonaire. Life is slow and it's quite basic and it's always summer. I wanted to translate this into a new collection of paintings. I focused on small paintings first because I thought it would be nice for people to be able to take art in their suitcase. Playing around thinking about this I discovered that I like to paint on small woodpanels that my husband (who is a carpenter) has lying around in his workshop. I also found out I like to paint on cartboard and the back of packaging like serial boxes. By painting on waste material I feel extra connected to the island life, because it is difficult to get material and products here. We have to be creative. In this series the colors blue and turquoise are important because of the always impressive color of the sea around Bonaire.
The original paintings on this page are for sale. They can be purchased by clicking on the picture and/or e-mail me. Shipping will be done in July when a special suitcase with artwork goes to The Netherlands. Shipping to NL is included in the price.
These paintings are also available in my studio shop on Bonaire. So it's possible something was sold before the website is updated.
Some of these paintings are available as print in the collection of Tacit Collective (Canada), click here.
We live on the island of Bonaire. If you google the island you will see the famous tourist pictures. Flamingos, palm trees, the salt pans. But we live in an old neighborhood, once founded by the Spaniards. Life here is slow, simple and basic. It makes me nostalgic. I like to translate this feeling into paintings. Life here is slow and basic.
Swimmer in red: Only print available
I also made a few larger paintings inspired by this theme.
And these paintings below will be at the Open Studio as well, but do not completely fit the theme, but maybe still do a little bit.
